We are thrilled to announce the launch of The Natural Capital Manifesto with AECOM, an innovative and transformative initiative aimed at bridging the gap between our economy and the environment. In a world grappling with the nature and climate emergency, this manifesto serves as a clarion call for action, inviting corporations, governments, and society at large to recognize the intrinsic value of natural capital and invest in sustainable practices that benefit both the planet and the economy.
Understanding the Challenge
Our planet is facing interconnected crises, highlighted by the rapid decline of biodiversity, ecosystem degradation, and the depletion of natural resources driven by human activities. The cost of these disruptions is staggering, with the World Economic Forum estimating that over half of the world’s GDP—approximately $44 trillion—depends heavily on nature and its services. If we fail to act, we risk facing annual losses of $2.7 trillion by 2030 due to biodiversity loss alone 2.
In response to these pressing challenges, the Natural Capital Initiative presents a groundbreaking strategy that merges conservation efforts with cutting-edge technologies and financial incentives. Our pilot project, launched in partnership with Napital Group and AECOM, will begin with a 100-hectare site on Bintan Island, Indonesia, focusing on restoring ecosystems and promoting sustainable practices.
The Natural Capital Manifesto outlines our vision for creating a new asset class centered around nature. By quantifying and rewarding investments in conservation initiatives, we aim to align economic incentives with environmental sustainability, fostering a healthier planet for future generations
