Taipei, Linkou, Urban Natural Capital Pilot - a new paradigm of urban-nature integration

· News

The Napital team visited Linkou recently and is exploring a new paradigm of Harmonious Urban-Nature Integration through an innovative Natural Capital Pilot Project. This project will embody the core principles of the Natural Capital Initiative, aiming to foster natural capital within the urban environment and seamlessly connect city life with natural ecosystems.

The first phase concentrates on crafting high-performance ecosystems within a 1 ha food waste processing plant. Despite spatial limitations, our mandate is to optimse the latent potential for biodiversity and ecosystem service enrichment within urban landscapes, exemplifying a systematic approach to improving Natural Captial performance across all landscape typologies.

The project planning and design fully aligns with performance-driven principles, employing a projection-based focus to maximise Natural Capital gains. Continuous digital monitoring underscores our commitment to data-driven urban natural capital initiatives.

Positioned on the urban periphery adjacent to a privately-owned conservation zone, the project's second phase extends habitat restoration efforts into a 2-3 ha forest transitional zone bridging urban fringes with natural environs. Through baseline surveys and Natural Capital assessment, this transitional landscape upgrade will inform future restoration and conservation strategies, epitomizing our dedication to sustainable urban-nature integration.
