Restoration Begins: From Concept to Tropical Implementation
Napital Group has commissioned AECOM, the US based global leader in Design and Engineering, to establish our first pilot for the Natural Capital Initiative. The 100-hectare pilot Natural Capital Project on Bintan Island in Indonesia is inspired by AECOM’s successful Natural Capital Laboratory in Scotland. It aims to localize a cutting-edge methodology for restoring forestland to improve ecosystem performance while harnessing digital tools to monitor and communicate ecological progress in terms of air, water, soil, carbon, and biodiversity. Given the site’s proximity to Singapore, our experts will utilize the innovative Singapore Biodiversity Accounting Metric, which assigns numerical values to habitats and green and blue spaces.
Digital Tools for Monitoring and Engagement
The gathered data will be displayed in a natural capital digital twin, allowing stakeholders to track the site’s progress. The goal is to present environmental data in a visually engaging manner that resonates with non-scientists, fostering support, gathering feedback, and educating the public. This data also facilitates adaptive management of the site to maximize performance.
Enabling ESG Commercialization Through Nature
The project owner will explore commercializing ESG solutions through collaboration with financial institutions, the fintech sector, and global corporations to address the climate and nature emergency sustainably. As the Bintan Island pilot project progresses, AECOM, in partnership with the client, aims to create opportunities for the commercial sector to actively participate in ecosystem enhancement.
